Portland → Banff → Yukon → Denali → Anchorage. From the Pacific Northwest to the heart of Alaska, along Canada’s great wilderness highways, with an adventure BMW and full UpSerra support.
From the Pacific Northwest to the heart of Alaska: an editorial crossing through some of North America’s most iconic landscapes. We leave Portland, climb through the Canadian Rockies and the legendary Alaska Highway, cross the Yukon to the historic gold-rush town of Dawson City, and reach Denali National Park before closing in Anchorage. Two mirrored departures, same route in both directions.
Classification: Moderate — mostly paved roads, with one gravel stretch on the Top of the World Highway. Intermediate level, without the technical demands of extreme expeditions like Carretera Austral.
Departure I — Northbound: June 24 to July 9 (Portland → Anchorage), crossing the Yukon at the height of the Arctic summer. Departure II — Southbound: July 13 to 28 (Anchorage → Portland). 16 days each, with a free day in Banff on both legs.

Day-by-day itinerary — Departure I · Northbound
Portland → Portland
BMW adventure bikes handed over and full briefing for the days ahead in Portland, Oregon — gateway to the Pacific Northwest.
Portland → Lewiston
We leave the Pacific behind and cross inland Oregon and Washington to Lewiston, Idaho, on the banks of the Snake and Clearwater rivers — the gateway to the Rocky Mountains.
Lewiston → Columbia Falls
A climb up the historic US 12, cutting through the forests and mountain ranges of Idaho and Montana to Columbia Falls, at the gateway to Glacier National Park.
Columbia Falls → Banff
We cross the border into Canada and enter the Alberta Rockies, arriving in Banff, surrounded by the country’s most iconic peaks.
Banff
A free day in Banff to rest, walk the town and, optionally, ride out to Lake Louise, one of the most photographed lakes in the Canadian Rockies.
Banff → Prince George
We leave the Rockies behind and head north through the interior of British Columbia to Prince George.
Prince George → Dawson Creek
Arrival at Mile 0 of the legendary Alaska Highway, the road built in 1942 that opens the way to the Yukon and Alaska.
Dawson Creek → Fort Nelson
We ride the early stretches of the Alaska Highway proper, through the boreal forests of northern British Columbia.
Fort Nelson → Watson Lake
Bison on the roadside, the hot springs of Liard River, and arrival in the Yukon at the famous Signpost Forest.
Watson Lake → Whitehorse
Riding through the heart of the Yukon to the territory’s capital.
Whitehorse → Dawson City
North along the Klondike Highway to Dawson City, the historic gold-rush town that put the Yukon on the map.
Dawson City → Tok
The Top of the World Highway, with its gravel stretch and sweeping views over the Yukon–Alaska border. Subject to weather conditions, with a paved alternate route available.

Back onto paved road, crossing interior Alaska to Fairbanks, the state’s second-largest city and traditional gateway to the Arctic.

South on the Parks Highway toward Denali National Park, home to the highest peak in North America.

Do I need a visa?
Yes, two tourist visas: the American one (B1/B2) and the Canadian one. For the overland crossing the eTA doesn’t count — you need a Canadian tourist visa stamped in your passport. UpSerra guides you through both processes.
Is the Top of the World Highway very difficult?
It is the only gravel stretch of the whole route, between Dawson City and the Alaska border, ridden in a single day with a support vehicle and UpSerra guide. Subject to weather conditions, with a paved alternate route available. It requires riding experience, not extreme off-road experience.
Which motorcycle will I ride?
A BMW adventure-category motorcycle, prepared for the route, with the rental included in the package.
What’s the weather like?
June and July are the Arctic summer: midnight sun, mild temperatures inland and cold ones in the far north. The briefing includes the full gear list.
