Portugal Definitive 2027 — From Cabo da Roca to Cabo de São Vicente
16 days riding the complete Portugal loop — Atlantic coast, Serra da Estrela, the Douro, Peneda-Gerês, Alentejo and Algarve. Lisboa to Lisboa.
2,247 km · BMW R1300GS included · Moderate level.
Portugal has some of the best asphalt in the world, landscapes that change every 200 kilometers, and a culture you eat, drink and live on the road. Portugal Definitive was built for riders who want to discover the country for real — not on the highways, but on the nacionais that cross the interior, climb sierras, descend into vineyards and reach the end of the world with the sun setting into the Atlantic.
16 days and 2,247 km on the complete loop. Out of Lisbon north along the Atlantic — Cabo da Roca, Sintra, Nazaré, Óbidos. Then into the wild interior: Piódão in the Schist Villages, Torre da Serra da Estrela at Portugal’s highest point, the Glacial Valley of Zêzere on the epic descent to Manteigas. Then the Douro — the N222, voted best road in the world, following the river and the vineyards to Pinhão.
From the Douro we climb north: Guimarães (birthplace of Portugal), Peneda-Gerês National Park on the most praised N304 in the country, and Porto with sunset over the Arrábida Bridge. Then the great descent through the interior to the Alentejo — Évora, Monsaraz, the silence of Alqueva. And the closing through the Algarve: Mértola, the Serra de Monchique, Cabo de São Vicente in Sagres. Return through the Vicentina Coast and Serra da Arrábida back to Lisbon.
Europe-tour format: BMW R1300GS rental in Europe is always included in the price. UpSerra handles the bike pickup at the Lisbon airport, hotels, the support vehicle, route planning and bilingual guides. You bring your motorcycle license and your gear — flight to Lisbon (LIS) is on the rider. Moderate level — 100% asphalt with technical sierra sections and one long transit day to the Alentejo.

Piódão → Manteigas
Day of altitude and alpine scenery. Climb via N230 / N339 through Unhais da Serra — one of the best climb stretches in Portugal: wide asphalt, long-radius curves and constant gradient. Group photo at Torre (Serra da Estrela), the highest point in Portugal. Epic descent on N338 through the Glacial Valley of Zêzere — 15 km of U-shaped canyon with granite walls. The most photogenic stretch of the trip.
DAY 05 · SUN APR 19 · 167 KM · DOURO
Manteigas → Pinhão
From mountain to liquid gold. N232 to Gouveia (technical descent with hairpins). Cross the Beira plateau via N102 through Trancoso. Guimarães → Vila do Gerês
The granite paradise and “the perfect road.” Out to Braga via the slope of Bom Jesus do Monte. Then the gem: N304 — the most praised technical stretch in Portugal: impeccable asphalt, wide curves with excellent visibility and natural bends through the heart of Peneda-Gerês National Park.

DAY 10 · FRI APR 24 · 382 KM · ALENTEJO

DAY 11 · SAT APR 25 · 60 KM · MONSARAZ DARK SKY
Évora → Monsaraz
Free morning in Évora — Temple of Diana, the Cathedral and the famous Chapel of Bones. Afternoon along N18 / N256 cutting across the Alentejo horizon of montados and vines to Monsaraz. The approach is cinematic: technical climb to the top of the fortified village with unbeatable view over the Great Lake of Alqueva. At night, as a Dark Sky Reserve, Monsaraz offers one of the most impressive star spectacles in the world.
DAY 12 · SUN APR 26 · 234 KM · MÉRTOLA + ALGARVE
Monsaraz → Tavira
The Guadiana and the back door to the Algarve. Descent south with the Guadiana River as a guide — landscape reminiscent of North Africa. Arrival in Tavira with dinner on the Roman Bridge.
DAY 13 · MON APR 27 · 200 KM · CABO DE SÃO VICENTE
Tavira → Sagres
The conquest of the south. Technical challenge of the day: the Fóia climb (Serra de Monchique) — chained curves on high-grip asphalt. From Aljezur to Sagres the road opens up and the immensity of the cliffs takes over. The UpSerra moment: parking the bikes at Cabo de São Vicente to watch the sun plunge into the Atlantic at the southwestern tip of continental Europe.
DAY 14 · TUE APR 28 · 224 KM · TRÓIA FERRY
Sagres → Setúbal
The great Atlantic climb. Up the N120 with brief stops in Zambujeira do Mar and lunch in Vila Nova de Milfontes. Mandatory stop for the final group photo. Then the epic moment: crossing the 25 de Abril Bridge over the Tagus — the sound of tires on metal grating, Cristo Rei and Lisbon in the distance. Relaxed riding via the Marginal back to Cascais. Closing in style.

Frequently asked questions
Which airport — Lisbon (LIS)?
Yes — fly into Lisbon LIS by D1 (April 15, 2027). The tour starts and ends in Lisbon, so the same airport works for arrival and departure. UpSerra meets at the hotel; the BMW handover happens at the welcome briefing.
How does the BMW R1300GS rental work?
UpSerra rents the BMW R1300GS in Europe through its partner network for this tour. The bike is included in the package — you don’t pay separately. Comprehensive insurance, registration and roadside assistance are part of the rental. Damage deposit (refundable) at handover, around EUR 1,500.
What’s the weather like in late April in Portugal?
Spring in Portugal — one of the best windows of the year. 12-22°C across most of the country. Mountain stretches (Serra da Estrela, Peneda-Gerês) can drop to 5-10°C in the morning. The Algarve and Lisbon are warmer, often 18-24°C. Layered gear required, with a rain layer for the sierra sections.
How tough is this tour?
Moderate level. 100% asphalt with some technical sierra sections (N304 in Peneda-Gerês, N338 in Serra da Estrela, Fóia in Monchique). One longer transit day (D10 Porto → Évora at 382 km). The N222 Douro section is famous for its perfect-radius curves. For riders comfortable on big bikes (700cc+) with experience on European or mountain riding.
Do I need an international driver’s license?
Yes — international permit recommended (or your Brazilian / national category-A license accompanied by a valid passport). Portugal is part of the EU, so a category-A license issued in any EU country is accepted natively. UpSerra advises during pre-trip preparation.
I don’t drink alcohol — does the tour still work?
Absolutely. The Douro and Quinta experiences are part of the cultural and gastronomic program — non-drinkers can enjoy the landscapes, architecture, paired food (without wine) and the riverside setting. Many participants choose to taste sparingly without compromising the riding the next day.
