Mendoza is not a rushed destination. You leave Urubici, cross southern Brazil through the serra, cross the border at Santo Tomé and ride down the Argentine pampa to the foot of the Cordillera de los Andes. Four days of road that take you hand-by-hand into the country — not as a tourist, as someone who arrives.
Eleven days. 4,362 kilometers. You ride most of them; the rest, you let the bike rest while you drink a Malbec in the shade of a century-old vine. Mendoza has that: it alternates road with winery, mountain with table, silence with a toast. The full logistics are handled by the UpSerra team — all you need to remember is to relax.
It’s the lightest trip on the UpSerra calendar. Easy route, big scenery, the pace of a couple traveling together. Those looking for extreme adrenaline go to Atacama or Carretera Austral. Those who want the real Argentina — good wine, Aconcagua in the window, long dinners — come to Mendoza.

DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY
11 days. 4,362 km. An Argentina few people know.
Meet the group, see the bikes ready, go over what’s coming and what’s staying behind. Dinner in the UpSerra Pousada hall, before the most anxious sleep of the week.
Leaving the Santa Catarina highlands toward the border. We cross Rio Grande do Sul’s farming region, cross the border at Uruguaiana and enter Argentina. First night on Argentine soil, in Santo Tomé.
The pampa opens up. Flat horizon in every direction, farms, cattle, headwind. Easy, mental riding — the kind of day that lets the trip’s rhythm settle into your body.
Last day of pampa, with the Cordillera appearing in the distance as you get closer. Arrival in Mendoza in the late afternoon — a city of wide plazas, vineyards all around, and food that grew up at the right pace.
Tasting day. You choose the circuit: Maipú (historic, more accessible wineries) or Luján de Cuyo (high-end, closer to the mountains). The UpSerra team advises on which ones to book in advance.
Second day in Mendoza to round out the experience: another winery, a long lunch, or a stroll through Plaza Independencia and Parque General San Martín. Those who prefer to rest, rest.
Short and cinematic stretch. Ruta 7 climbs through the Quebrada de Cacheuta between cliff walls with the Mendoza River alongside. Uspallata appears as a flat valley ringed by peaks. Small distance, big scenery.
Climb to Aconcagua Provincial Park, the highest peak outside the Himalayas. Laguna Horcones viewpoint with Aconcagua’s south face right in front of you. Those who want can continue to Cristo Redentor de los Andes on the border with Chile (3,832 m). Back to Uspallata to sleep.
Leaving Uspallata heading north, entering San Juan from the west. A road with more relief, scenery that shifts from arid to cultivated as you approach the city. San Juan is Argentina’s second wine region — altitude wines different from Mendoza’s Malbec.
Longest day of the return leg. San Juan → La Rioja → Córdoba to Villa Carlos Paz, a resort town on Lake San Roque, ringed by mountains. Last night in Argentina.
Long stretch, crossing central Argentina to the border. Official close in Uruguaiana — hugs, photos, and the trip ends here for those who need to catch a flight home.

What makes Mendoza different
Mendoza is the world’s 5th-largest wine region and the only one made right at the foot of the Cordillera de los Andes. Here Malbec grows in high-altitude soil — grapes planted between 800 and 1,500 meters, irrigated with snowmelt water. The result is a wine with an identity you won’t find anywhere else.
50 km from the city, the climb toward Uspallata begins, the base for the Aconcagua expedition. Within a few hours you go from a climate-controlled winery drinking a 2015-vintage Malbec to a viewpoint at 4,000 m with the south face of the highest peak in the Americas right in front of you. That transition is what defines the tour.

PREREQUISITES
Who can go
- Valid driver’s license — more specific guidance is given by the UpSerra team upon confirming your registration
- Valid passport (expiring after December/2028)
- International health insurance covering Argentina/Chile
- Minimum experience: 2,000 km of lifetime riding on a big bike (BMW GS, Triumph Tiger, KTM Adv or similar). The tour is Easy level — no off-road experience required
- Winter gear: thermal pants and jacket, balaclava, reinforced gloves. Mendoza in June ranges from 5°C (city) to -5°C (Aconcagua in the morning)
- Vaccination: none mandatory for Argentina, but update Yellow Fever (WHO recommendation) and Tetanus
