from Cabo da Roca to Sagres — passing through Gerês, Douro and Alentejo.
Portugal has some of the best asphalt in the world, landscapes that change every 200 kilometers, and a culture you eat, drink and live on the road. Portugal Definitive was built for those who want to discover the real country — not via the highways, but on the national roads that cross the interior, climb mountains, descend into vineyards and reach the end of the world with the sun sinking into the Atlantic.
It’s 16 days and 2,247 kilometers doing the complete loop of the country. Departing Lisbon heading north along the Atlantic coast — Cabo da Roca, Sintra, Nazaré, Óbidos. Then into the more technical and wild interior: Piódão in the Schist Villages, the Torre in the Serra da Estrela at the highest point in Portugal, the Zêzere Glacial Valley on the epic descent to Manteigas. Then the Douro — the N222, voted the best road in the world, following the river and the vineyards to Pinhão.
From the Douro it climbs north: Guimarães (the birthplace of Portugal), Peneda-Gerês National Park on the N304, the country’s most praised road, and Porto with sunset at the Ponte da Arrábida. Then the great descent through the interior to the Alentejo — Évora, Monsaraz, the silence of the Alqueva. And the close through the Algarve: Mértola, the Serra de Monchique, Cabo de São Vicente in Sagres. Return via the Costa Vicentina and Serra da Arrábida to Lisbon.

ITINERARY
16 days riding Portugal from north to south
Lisbon — Arrival
Arrival in Lisbon, check-in and group introduction. Free evening to explore the city at your own pace — dinner in Baixa or Bairro Alto to get into the Portuguese mood.
Lisbon → Óbidos
The opening ride. We leave Lisbon following the Tagus River along the Marginal to Estoril and Cascais. Mandatory stop at Cabo da Roca — the westernmost point of mainland Europe. Climb through the Serra de Sintra (narrow, wooded, technical roads), lunch in Sintra with the famous Travesseiros pastries. Afternoon along the coastal road past the cliffs of Ericeira. Arrival at the medieval village of Óbidos — a toast with Ginjinha served in a chocolate cup inside the castle.
Óbidos → Piódão
We leave Óbidos for Nazaré — a stop at the Farol do Sítio lighthouse to see the canyon of giant waves. Lunch in Coimbra, on the banks of the Mondego River. Afternoon on the most technical stretch of the day: climbing through the Góis and Arganil region, crossing the Serra do Açor on flawless asphalt through dense vegetation. Arrival in Piódão, the iconic “Nativity Village” built entirely from schist.
Piódão → Manteigas
A day of altitude and alpine scenery. We leave via the CM1341 and N344 to Vide (a tight, twisty mountain stretch). Then the N230 and N339 climbing through Unhais da Serra — one of the best climbs in Portugal: wide asphalt, long-radius curves and constant gradient. Stop at the peak: Torre (Serra da Estrela), the highest point in Portugal, for the group photo. Epic descent on the N338 through the Zêzere Glacial Valley — 15 km of “U”-shaped gorge with granite walls. The most photogenic stretch of the trip.
Manteigas → Pinhão
From the mountains to liquid gold. We leave via the N232 to Gouveia (a technical descent with hairpins). Crossing the Beira plateau on the N102 through Trancoso. In Vila Nova de Foz Côa we join the N222 heading west, descending toward the Douro River. Arrival in Pinhão, the heart of the Douro Wine Valley. Stay at a Quinta with a paired wine dinner and views over the terraced vineyards.
Pinhão — Day Off
A day dedicated to the Douro. Morning: visit to Pinhão train station (historic azulejo tiles) and a train ride to Tua. Late lunch at Quinta de La Rosa or Quinta do Bomfim. Afternoon: private sunset boat ride with a Port wine toast. Relaxed dinner in the village center.
Pinhão → Guimarães
The heart of the Douro and the birthplace of the nation. We leave via the N222 to Peso da Régua — 27 km along the left bank of the Douro on flawless asphalt with constant-radius curves. Climb to Vila Real on the N2 (the last panoramic views over the valley). We continue on the N101 through Amarante. Triumphant arrival in Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal — dinner among the illuminated medieval houses of Praça da Oliveira.
Guimarães → Vila do Gerês
The granite paradise and the “perfect road”. We leave for Braga passing the hillside of Bom Jesus do Monte. Then the jewel: the N304 — Portugal’s most praised technical stretch: flawless asphalt, wide curves with excellent visibility and a flow that feels designed for motorcycles. Entry into Peneda-Gerês National Park — solid granite and deep valleys all the way to Vila do Gerês.
Vila do Gerês → Porto
From stone villages to the “Unconquered City”. Crossing the Mata da Albergaria and the border at Portela do Homem. Stop in Lindoso for the 64 granite espigueiros (granaries) — the photo that sums up the Alto Minho. Smooth descent through the Lima Valley and past the Roman bridge in Ponte de Lima. Arrival in Porto over the Ponte da Arrábida with a panoramic view of the Douro estuary at sunset.
Porto → Évora
The great transition to the Alentejo plains. A smooth descent from Porto to the Santarém region. Crossing the Tagus River — the mountains disappear and the first cork oak montados appear. A quick stop in Santarém (Portas do Sol) before diving into the Alentejo. Arrival in Évora, a World Heritage Site — dinner on a typical terrace with local olive oils and wines.
Évora → Monsaraz
Free morning in Évora — the Temple of Diana, the Cathedral and the famous Chapel of Bones. Afternoon on the N18 and N256, cutting through the Alentejo horizon of cork groves and vineyards to Monsaraz. The approach is cinematic: a technical climb to the top of the fortified village with an unbeatable view over the Great Alqueva Lake. At night, as a Dark Sky Reserve, Monsaraz’s sky offers one of the most impressive star shows in the world.
Monsaraz → Tavira
The Guadiana and the back door to the Algarve. A ride south with the Guadiana River as a guide — scenery reminiscent of North Africa. Stop in Mértola: the Castle and the Church-Mosque, a uniquely preserved Arab heritage in Portugal. Technical crossing of the Serra do Caldeirão — pure riding through rolling hills with no traffic. Arrival in Tavira with dinner by the Roman Bridge.
Tavira → Sagres
Conquering the south. The technical challenge of the day: the climb up Fóia (Serra de Monchique) — chained curves on high-grip asphalt. From Aljezur to Sagres the road opens up and the vastness of the cliffs takes over. The UpSerra moment: parking the bikes at Cabo de São Vicente to watch the sun sink into the Atlantic Ocean. The symbolic close of the descent through Portugal.
Sagres → Setúbal
The great Atlantic climb north. We follow the flow on the N120 with a quick stop in Zambujeira do Mar and lunch in Vila Nova de Milfontes. The highlight of the day: arrival at the Tróia Peninsula and boarding the ferry to Setúbal — crossing the Sado Estuary with the bikes on board as the sun sets. Dinner featuring the famous Choco Frito (fried cuttlefish) in the port of Setúbal.
Setúbal → Lisbon
The crystal road and the Portuguese Riviera. The visual climax of the trip: the Serra da Arrábida on the N379-1 — the road seems to float above the turquoise-blue ocean. A mandatory stop for the group’s final photo. Then the epic moment: crossing the Ponte 25 de Abril over the Tagus — the sound of tires on the metal grating, Cristo Rei and Lisbon in the background. A relaxed ride along the Marginal to Cascais. Closing out in style.
Lisbon — Closing
Farewell dinner at the Cascais Marina or in Lisbon’s historic center. The moment to celebrate 16 days of asphalt, curves and friendship. Return flights to Brazil.
