    FLY & RIDE PREMIUM · 10 DAYS · MAY 2028

Secret France I 2028 — Massif Central & Gorges du Tarn

Toulouse → Gorges du Tarn → Cévennes → Ardèche → Auvergne → Lyon.
A France that few riders have ever discovered — and one you won’t forget.

There are famous trips — the ones everyone takes, that show up on every list, that fill the feed of every motorcycle Instagrammer. And there are the ones that seem to have been kept secret, passed rider to rider around a campfire, never in a sponsored post. Secret France is the second kind. A France completely different from the one you imagine.

Over ten days, we ride out of Toulouse and cross the country’s least obvious heart — through Albi and the medieval village of Cordes-sur-Ciel before dropping into the Gorges du Tarn, a canyon system with hundreds of meters of limestone wall that turns every corner into something hard to describe. From there, the route climbs into the Lozère, one of France’s least populated regions, enters the dense forests of the Cévennes and descends into the Ardèche river valley — where the Pont d’Arc, one of Europe’s largest natural arches, marks the start of a stretch of road you’ll remember for a long time.

The tour closes out in the Massif Central of the Auvergne — a volcanic plateau of open, green landscapes where the dormant volcanoes of the Puy de Dôme create an otherworldly setting. From Toulouse to Lyon, 10 days, near-empty departmental roads, superior standard accommodation and a BMW included. This is a trip built for those who already understand that the best stories are rarely found on the main roads.

    THE ROUTE

From Toulouse to Lyon through the secret heart of France

    ITINERARY

10 days across the France nobody told you about

    01
DAY 01 · Sat May 13 Toulouse — Arrival Arrival

Arrival in Toulouse, the Pink City — so called for the rosy clay bricks that tint the entire historic center. Group welcome, technical briefing and handover of the BMW motorcycles. Welcome dinner in the heart of Occitania, where the cuisine already hints at what’s to come: cassoulet, foie gras and Cahors wine. First night with your head already on what lies ahead.

    02
    DAY 02 · Sun May 14 Toulouse → Albi → Cordes-sur-Ciel ~200 km

First contact with inland France. We leave Toulouse heading toward Albi — a UNESCO World Heritage city with a 13th-century red-brick cathedral that looks more like a medieval fortress than a place of worship. The road between Toulouse and Albi is already a departmental one: empty, well kept and with the perfect rhythm for settling into travel mode. Today’s destination is Cordes-sur-Ciel — a medieval village built atop a hill that, on foggy days, literally emerges from the clouds, with craftsmen and workshops still keeping 14th-century techniques alive. Overnight at the base of the hill, looking out over the plateau.

    03
    DAY 03 · Mon May 15 Cordes-sur-Ciel → Gorges du Tarn ~220 km

Entering canyon territory. The route descends from the plateau toward the Millau Viaduct — the tallest in the world, crossing the Tarn valley 270m up — and soon reveals what will dominate the next two days: limestone walls rising hundreds of meters on either side of the road, the turquoise river below and sequences of sinuous curves carved straight into the rock. The roads that hug the Gorges du Tarn are a natural byproduct: built to work with impossible topography, they became, almost by accident, some of the best motorcycling roads in Europe. First of two nights in the Gorges.

    04
DAY 04 · Tue May 16 Gorges du Tarn & Gorges de la Jonte Loop ~180 km

No luggage, no destination to reach — just the loop. One of the trip’s great days: the Gorges du Tarn in the morning and the Gorges de la Jonte in the afternoon, an adjacent, less-visited canyon where griffon vultures were reintroduced in the 1980s and today soar between the walls with a wingspan of 2.7 meters. Riding through a gorge with those creatures gliding low above you is surreal. The loop returns along the ridges of the Causse Méjean, an open-horizon limestone plateau that contrasts with the abyss of the canyons below. Second night in the Gorges.

    05
DAY 05 · Wed May 17 Gorges du Tarn → Lozère → Cévennes ~200 km

A transition into a wilder France. Leaving the Gorges is a technical privilege: the roads climbing out of the causse are winding and even emptier than the ones down in the valley. We cross the Lozère — France’s least densely populated department, where you can ride 30 km without seeing a car — before dropping down into the Cévennes. The Cévennes is a region of dense forest, with monumental chestnut trees and a tradition of historical resistance that has shaped its architecture and character. Overnight in a typical village with a stone fireplace — first of two nights in the heart of the Cévennes.

    06
DAY 06 · Thu May 18 Cévennes Technical Loop ~180 km

UpSerra’s signature day in France. The Cévennes has been designated by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve and National Park — and as a direct consequence, its traffic is close to zero and its roads were built to climb and descend hillsides with a technical efficiency that delights any rider. Continuous rhythm: medium- and low-radius curves, sequences of hairpins through oak and pine forest, ribbons of asphalt disappearing uphill into the vegetation. No heavy traffic, no trucks, no traffic lights. 180 km that go by far too fast. Second night in the Cévennes.

    07
    DAY 07 · Fri May 19 Cévennes → Gorges de l’Ardèche ~220 km

Descending from the forests into emerald canyons. Crossing the Gorges de l’Ardèche is one of the most cinematic stretches of the route: the Ardèche river runs through a white limestone canyon, its emerald-blue water creating a color contrast that looks almost edited. The high point is the Pont d’Arc — a natural arch 60 meters wide that the river has carved for millennia and that today is one of Europe’s most important archaeological sites (the Chauvet Cave, with 36,000-year-old cave paintings, is right here). The road winding above the canyon offers views worth stopping for. Overnight in the Ardèche region.

    08
    DAY 08 · Sat May 20 Ardèche → Auvergne ~240 km

The great crossing toward the volcanic heart of France. We leave the Ardèche, climbing gradually into the Massif Central — the ancient mountain shield at the center of the French hexagon. The landscape shifts progressively and majestically: the white limestone gorges give way to rounded mountains covered in pasture and birch groves, the rivers grow darker and slower, the air cools. The destination is Auvergne, where the dormant volcanoes of the Puy de Dôme dominate the horizon — silhouettes of perfect cones lined up in a chain that was designated by UNESCO in 2018. First of two nights in Clermont-Ferrand or nearby.

    09
DAY 09 · Sun May 21 Auvergne Volcano Loop ~180 km

Flowing riding among volcanoes. The circuit runs along the Chaîne des Puys — a row of 80 volcanoes lined up over 40 km, all dormant for less than 10,000 years — on departmental roads that gently roll between the domes. The high point is the climb to the Puy de Dôme (1,465m): the highest volcano in the chain, with 360° views over the Auvergne plateau and, on clear days, the Alps to the east. The descent is technical and rewarding. In the afternoon, we ride through the Dore and Allier valleys where Cantal and Saint-Nectaire cheeses are made — a perfect chance for lunch at a local farm. Second night in the Auvergne.

    10
    DAY 10 · Mon May 22 Auvergne → Lyon — Closing ~200 km

The last chapter. We descend from the Auvergne plateau toward the Rhône valley and arrive in Lyon — France’s gastronomic capital and a city with one of Europe’s best-preserved historic centers (Vieux-Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage site). Motorcycle handover marks the official close of Secret France I 2028. Final celebration dinner in Vieux-Lyon — at one of the traditional bouchons, with quenelle de brochet and Beaujolais. It’s hard to describe what 10 days of roads like these do to your state of mind. You’ll understand when you get there.

    11
    DAY 11 · Tue May 23 Lyon — Flights / Departure Flights

Free morning in Lyon. Check-out and departure to Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport. Official close of Secret France I 2028. Until the next road.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Questions about the tour

The tour was designed for an intermediate-to-technical rider profile, with a predominance of flowing riding (65%). Unlike the Alpine or Pyrenees tours, the roads here are longer and more open, without much extreme altitude. But the stretches through the Cévennes and along the edges of the causse call for attention and experience with sequences of curves. If you’ve already done at least one long-distance trip and feel comfortable on winding mid-mountain roads, you’re at the right level.
The tour is point-to-point: you fly into Toulouse (outbound) and out of Lyon (return). Both have international airports with good connections via Paris (CDG/ORY). UpSerra guides you through booking the two separate tickets — Toulouse outbound / Lyon return — and helps with date logistics. This setup eliminates the initial transfer and the idle overnight at the starting point: you land, pick up the bike, and you’re on the road.
The Gorges du Tarn are a canyon system carved by the Tarn River into the limestone of the Massif Central — with walls reaching up to 500m high. What made this place perfect for motorcycles is a direct consequence of the topography: the roads had to be built into the canyon wall, resulting in sequences of curves with immaculate asphalt and minimal traffic (car tourism tends to avoid the region because of how hard it is to maneuver). Two days here still feel like too few.
May is excellent for southern and central France — long days, blooms still in full swing, and tourist traffic still low ahead of the European summer. In Toulouse, expect 20°C–25°C. In the Gorges and the Cévennes, 15°C–20°C during the day, dropping to 8°C–12°C at night. In the Massif Central (Auvergne), mornings are cool: 6°C–12°C at departure. A thermal base layer and cold-weather gloves are essential — early-morning riding on these plateaus calls for proper gear.
No. Brazilian citizens can enter France (Schengen Area) without a visa for stays of up to 90 days. A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the return date is required. Travel insurance is legally mandatory for the Schengen Area and must cover a minimum of € 34,500 in medical assistance — we recommend broader coverage for motorcycle trips.
The Cévennes is a massif of dense forest and deep valleys in the southeast of the Massif Central, designated by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. That means: near-zero population density, departmental roads built to climb hillsides efficiently, and practically no tourist traffic. The result is a 180 km circuit where you can ride at a continuous rhythm, without stopping for trucks or traffic lights, through constant medium-radius curves. It’s the kind of day that reminds you why you started riding in the first place.
The tour has limited spots to ensure the quality of the experience and individualized attention from the UpSerra team. European tours tend to sell out 4–6 months in advance. If you’re genuinely interested, the recommendation is to confirm your reservation as soon as possible.
