    FLY&RIDE • PATAGONIA • 2 DEPARTURES MARCH 2028

    Lakes & Volcanoes Fly&Ride 2028

Fly into Bariloche or San Martín. The BMW R1300GS is already waiting for you.
6-7 days, 1,340 km between turquoise lakes and volcanoes in Northern Patagonia. Two departures in March.

This is the tour for riders who want Patagonia without the wear of 4,000 km from Brazil to get there. You fly straight into Bariloche or San Martín de los Andes, land, and the BMW R1300GS prepared by UpSerra is already waiting. 6-7 days, 1,340 km of scenic roads through turquoise lakes, araucaria forests, snow-capped volcanoes and a crossing of the Andes — twice.

The route starts in San Martín de los Andes, on the shore of Lake Lacar, on the Seven Lakes Route. It crosses into Pucón in Chile through the region of Lanín Volcano, continues to Puerto Varas with views of Osorno Volcano and Lake Llanquihue. Then it explores the Parque Vicente Pérez Rosales with Lake Todos los Santos, returns to Argentina via Villa La Angostura and finishes in Bariloche with the iconic Circuito Chico in Nahuel Huapi National Park.

March is the end of the southern-hemisphere summer in Northern Patagonia — stable weather, 15-25°C, long days with light until 9pm. It’s one of the best windows of the year to ride this region. Moderate level, average of 190 km per day, good asphalt. The entire logistics are handled by UpSerra: motorcycle, hotels, bilingual guides, support vehicle. All you need is an ID or passport, a Category A motorcycle license and your outbound flight.

    Day-by-day itinerary

The reference itinerary is the 7-day one (Departure II). Departure I (6 days) compacts arrival and Day 2 into a single day on the road.

Arrival in San Martín de los Andes

You land at Chapelco Airport (San Martín) or in Bariloche and the UpSerra team meets you. Transfer to the hotel on the shore of Lake Lacar. Technical briefing, handover of the prepared BMW R1300GS motorcycles, final adjustments. Welcome dinner with the group.

    DAY 02 · 100 KM · SEVEN LAKES ROUTE

San Martín → San Martín (Seven Lakes Route)

First day of riding to get settled in on the region’s scenic roads. Route along the Seven Lakes Route with photo stops — Lake Faulkner, Villarino, Falkner, Hermoso. Landscapes that explain why this route is famous in the motorcycle-touring world. Return to San Martín in the late afternoon.

    DAY 03 · 180 KM · LANÍN VOLCANO

    San Martín → Pucón

Crossing the Andes toward Chile through the region of the imposing Lanín Volcano (3,776m, a perfect snow-capped cone). Paso Mamuil Malal — the AR-CL border crossing. DAY 04 · 400 KM · OSORNO VOLCANO

    Pucón → Puerto Varas

Epic day crossing Chilean villages, lakes and volcanoes. Lunch in Frutillar with a prime view of Osorno Volcano reflected in the waters of Lake Llanquihue — a village settled by Germans in the 19th century, with preserved German-style cuisine. Arrival in Puerto Varas in the late afternoon.

    DAY 05 · 200 KM · PETROHUÉ PARK

    Exploring Vicente Pérez Rosales Park

Day exploring the surroundings of Lake Todos los Santos and Parque Vicente Pérez Rosales, Chile’s oldest national park. Ascent to the Osorno Volcano viewpoint, visit to the Petrohué Falls (turquoise waterfalls over volcanic rock). Second night in Puerto Varas.

    DAY 06 · 360 KM · RETURN TO ARGENTINA

    Puerto Varas → Bariloche

Return crossing into Argentina via Paso Cardenal Samoré, crossing wild landscapes of Northern Patagonia. Stop in Villa La Angostura on the shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi, then arrival in the charming San Carlos de Bariloche in the late afternoon.

    THE FLY&RIDE FORMAT

Patagonia, without the wear of Brazil-Argentina

It’s the most compact Fly&Ride tour on the UpSerra calendar. Instead of leaving from Lages and crossing 4,000 km of Brazil-Argentina to reach Patagonia, you fly straight to Bariloche or to Chapelco Airport in San Martín de los Andes and the BMW R1300GS prepared by the team is already at the hotel. The days start right where the scenery gets good.

The route crosses the Andes twice: Paso Mamuil Malal (into Chile through the Lanín Volcano region) and Paso Cardenal Samoré (back to Argentina via Villa La Angostura). In between: two days in Puerto Varas with Osorno Volcano and Vicente Pérez Rosales Park, and Bariloche with Circuito Chico and Nahuel Huapi. Moderate level, average of 190 km/day. March is the end of the southern-hemisphere summer, 15-25°C, the best temperature window of the year.

No vehicle registration, no Green Card insurance, no motorcycle paperwork to sort out. The bike belongs to UpSerra — all you need is an ID or passport and a Category A motorcycle license.

    Frequently asked questions

How does the Fly&Ride format work?

You buy a flight from Brazil to Bariloche (BRC) or San Martín (CPC). UpSerra meets you at the airport on Day 1, transfers you to the hotel in San Martín de los Andes and hands over the already-prepared BMW R1300GS. On the last day, motorcycles are returned in Bariloche. The bike belongs to UpSerra — you don’t need to bring anything besides your ID/passport, license and personal gear.

Which airport should I fly into — Bariloche or San Martín?

Bariloche (BRC) has more direct flights from Brazil (LATAM, Aerolíneas) and is where the tour ends. San Martín (CPC, Aeropuerto Chapelco) is 30km from the starting hotel and has fewer flights. Suggestion: arrive in and depart from Bariloche. UpSerra provides a transfer from San Martín when needed and advises on the ideal timing for each departure.

What weather should I expect in March in Northern Patagonia?

March is the end of the southern-hemisphere summer — one of the best windows of the year. Temperatures of 15-25°C by day, with nature still green and the lakes at their bluest. Long days with light until 9pm. The Cordillera can have temperature swings, so layered gear is important. Lower chance of rain than in October (spring). Excellent for riding.

What’s the difference between Departure I (6 days) and Departure II (7 days)?

Departure I (Mar 1-6, 6 days) compacts the start: arrival and the Seven Lakes Route happen on the same day. The itinerary for the Chile → Bariloche legs is identical. Departure II (Mar 8-14, 7 days) has an extra day to settle in, with the Seven Lakes Route separate from arrival, without rushing. Those with a tight schedule should go with Departure I; those who can enjoy more time, Departure II.

    Is this a difficult tour?

Moderate level. Route 100% paved, comfortable averages (190 km/day), with short stages and a single long one (400 km on Day 4, Pucón→Puerto Varas). The challenges are Andean mountain curves and occasional wind in the Cordillera. If you have experience on a big motorcycle (700cc+) and have already ridden Brazilian mountain roads, you’re ready. Since the bike belongs to UpSerra, it’s a great entry point into international motorcycle touring.

Is the BMW R1300GS always included? Is there an option without a motorcycle?

Yes, the BMW R1300GS is always included — there’s no option without a motorcycle on this tour. Since the rider flies to Argentina, the logistics only make sense if the UpSerra motorcycle is waiting for you at the destination. Those who prefer to use their own bike should consider the Lakes & Volcanoes November 2028 Tour, which departs from Lages with your own motorcycle.

What’s the difference between the Lakes & Volcanoes Fly&Ride and the November Lakes & Volcanoes?

The Lakes & Volcanoes Fly&Ride (this tour) is Fly&Ride: you fly, the UpSerra BMW is included, 6-7 days, focused on San Martín-Pucón-Puerto Varas-Bariloche. The November Lakes & Volcanoes departs from Lages with your own motorcycle, lasts longer and goes further south. This one is for those who want Patagonia in a short time, without the logistics of traveling from Brazil.
