Transylvania, Danube & Dolomites 2027
Grossglockner, Transfăgărășan, Dolomites and Passo Rombo in 12 days. 7 countries. Fly & Ride Premium.
There are routes that cross countries. And there are routes that cross the soul of Europe. Mountain & Village was created for those who want to leave behind the capitals, the motorways and mass tourism — and dive deep into territories most travelers will never know.
Twelve days connecting high-altitude technical riding, medieval Romanian villages, the Danube on the Serbia–Romania border, the Slovenian Alps and the closing spectacle of the Italian Dolomites. From Munich and back, on a premium BMW. Seven countries — Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Italy — connected by some of the most iconic mountain roads on the continent.
Transfăgărășan — voted by Top Gear “the best road in the world.” Transalpina at 2,145 m. Iron Gates carved into Danube cliffs. Vršič Pass with 50 numbered hairpins. The Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage, as the grand finale. It’s the European tour for those who want depth — not just scenery.

THE ITINERARY
12 days · Day by day
UpSerra team welcome, technical briefing, BMW bike fitting. First taste of Munich and Bavaria. Special welcome dinner.
Immediate climb up the Grossglockner Hochalpenstraße — Austria’s most spectacular alpine pass at 2,504 m. Open curves, glacier views and pristine asphalt.
Into Hungary from eastern Austria. Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe — calm waters, Hungarian villages and local cuisine. Overnight on the lakeshore.
Into Romania. The landscape shifts radically — older, more rural, more intense. Border crossing and immediate immersion into deep Transylvania. Overnight in Deva, a medieval city with a historic citadel.
Full day dedicated to the Transfăgărășan — voted by Top Gear “the best road in the world.” 2,042 m altitude, tight hairpins, tunnels carved into rock and Lake Bâlea at the summit. Ridden without luggage for maximum enjoyment.
Transalpina reaches 2,145 m — the highest road in Romania. Summit stretches above 2,000 m, alpine scenery and almost no tourists. A secret only a few riders know.
The Danube gorge between Romania and Serbia — the longest and most dramatic gorge in Europe. The road runs along the river through cliffs, with King Decebalus’s face carved into the rock.
Out of Romania across the Serbian border, through Serbia and into Croatia. Samobor is an Austrian-style village on Croatian soil — Belle Époque cafés, medieval walls, and the quiet the route needs before the final mountains.
Into Slovenia and the Julian Alps. The Vršič Pass (1,611 m) delivers technical riding across 50 numbered hairpins, alpine views and one of the most striking landscapes in the region. Overnight in Kranjska Gora.
The most visually dramatic day. The Dolomites are recognized as Europe’s most beautiful mountain range — towers of golden rock, historic alpine passes (Passo Gardena, Passo Sella) and roads that look straight out of a film.
Final crossing through the Dolomites and climb up Passo Rombo — Italy / Austria border at 2,509 m. Descent into Sölden, an Austrian alpine resort in the Ötztal valley. Special pre-closing dinner.
Return to Munich along Bavarian backroads. Final kilometers to absorb everything you’ve lived. Bike return and official closing dinner. Sep 30 — flight home.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions
What is the Transfăgărășan and why is it so special?
The Transfăgărășan is a mountain road in Romania that crosses the Transylvanian Alps, reaching 2,042 m. Voted by Top Gear “the best road in the world.” Built between 1970–1974, it has tight hairpins, tunnels, waterfalls and Lake Bâlea at the summit. On Day 5 we ride it light — without luggage — to enjoy it to the fullest.
Is this tour for beginners or do I need experience?
Intermediate to advanced level. The route includes alpine passes above 2,000 m (Grossglockner, Transalpina, Passo Rombo), technical roads in Slovenia and the Dolomites. Riders who have already toured internationally on a big bike and feel comfortable in technical curves will adapt well. This is not a tour for beginners.
Does Fly & Ride mean I fly with my motorcycle?
No. Fly & Ride means you fly into Munich and your premium BMW is already waiting for you there. UpSerra handles all the fleet logistics. You just bring your flight luggage and riding gear.
What’s the weather like in September in Romania and the Dolomites?
September is European autumn — pleasant days (18–25°C / 64–77°F in the lowlands) but cold mornings on the alpine passes (5–10°C / 41–50°F above 2,000 m). 3-season gear is ideal: jacket with removable thermal liner, riding pants, cold-weather gloves and a balaclava. The initial briefing details the complete list.
Seven countries in 12 days — how does passport control work?
Most countries on the route are Schengen (Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy). Romania joined Schengen in 2025. Croatia and Serbia have borders with quick verification. The UpSerra team advises on full documentation.
What motorcycle will I be riding?
Premium BMW — R 1300 GS or equivalent, depending on the local partner’s fleet availability in Munich. Bikes are fully serviced, equipped with side bags and top case. Full adjustment and operation guide at the Day 1 briefing.
