Scandinavia Tour 2026 — To the Edge of Europe

Fjords, Lofoten, North Cape, and Lapland in 14 days.
6,429 km on a BMW R1300GS to the northernmost point of Europe.

Scandinavia has no middle ground. You leave Hamburg, cross Denmark, enter Norway through the most cinematic fjords on the planet — Lysefjord, Geiranger — climb up through the Lofoten archipelago where mountains rise straight from the sea, cross the Arctic Circle heading to Nordkapp, the northernmost point in Europe accessible by road. Round trip from Hamburg in one road — 6,429 km / 3,995 mi that change the scale of what you consider a journey.

Fourteen days on a BMW R1300GS riding some of the most beautiful roads in the world: Trollstigen, Atlantic Ocean Road, Lærdal Tunnel (the longest road tunnel in the world), the ferry stretch through the Lofoten islands. Full UpSerra logistics: hand-picked hotels, support vehicle, experienced tour leader, professional photo coverage, tolls and ferries included.

It’s the northernmost tour in the UpSerra calendar. In the Scandinavian summer, the midnight sun keeps the light on above the Arctic Circle — you ride at 11 PM in late-afternoon light. Anyone who reaches the North Cape and looks out sees only the Arctic Ocean and the curvature of the Earth. This isn’t a checklist tour. It’s the ride to where Europe ends.

    VASTNESS AND LIGHT

Scandinavia changes the scale of what you call a journey

In the Scandinavian summer, above the Arctic Circle, the sun doesn’t set. The midnight sun is literal: you ride past 11 PM under late-afternoon skies. The concept of “day” shifts. There’s no time to stop — only fatigue. And the landscape never repeats: every 50 km Norway delivers another of the world’s most beautiful roads. Trollstigen, Atlantic Road, Lærdal, Geiranger. Places that are only clichés for those who’ve never seen them.

The fjords are not landscape — they are geography on a scale that needs no adjective. Lysefjord, with 3,300 ft / 1,000 m walls rising straight from the water. Geiranger, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lofoten, where granite mountains pierce the ocean and red-painted fishing villages reflect on icy water. Nordkapp, the cliff where Europe ends and the Arctic begins. Fourteen days, 6,429 km / 3,995 mi — you go home different.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is it cold in July/August in Scandinavia?

Scandinavian summer is the only viable season for this tour. Southern Norway: 18–22°C / 64–72°F. Far north (North Cape, Lapland): 8–15°C / 46–59°F with wind. North Cape evenings can drop to 5°C / 41°F. Layered gear is mandatory. No snow in July, but rain is frequent — a waterproof shell is essential.

Does the midnight sun mess with sleep?

Above the Arctic Circle in July/August the sun doesn’t set. It can feel strange at first — we recommend a sleep mask. The upside: you can ride past 11 PM in late-afternoon light. Hotels above the polar circle have quality blackout curtains.

Do I need a visa for the Schengen Area?

US, Canadian, UK, Australian, and New Zealand citizens currently enter the Schengen Area visa-free for tourism (up to 90 days within any 180-day window). Always check the latest entry requirements before departure — UpSerra confirms with you ahead of time. ETIAS authorization may be required by 2026 — UpSerra will guide on a case-by-case basis.

    Is it technically tough?

No. Moderate level — the challenge is mileage (several days at 400+ km / 250+ mi) and duration (14 days). Norwegian roads are very well maintained, with excellent asphalt. Trollstigen has 11 hairpin turns but it’s wide and safe. Constant cold and long-trip fatigue are tougher than the riding itself.

    Is Norway really that expensive?

Yes. The most expensive destination on the UpSerra calendar. Fuel ~USD 8/gallon. A simple restaurant meal: USD 25–40. A decent meal: USD 50–90. Hotels with kitchens are an alternative for grocery-store meals. Budget USD 1,300–2,000 for fuel + USD 1,500–2,700 for food across the entire tour.

How does the Lofoten ferry work?

Included in the package. Bodø → Moskenes (Lofoten) is a ~3-hour crossing. Bikes ride on the lower deck, secured, while riders go up to the cabin — there’s a café, lounge, panoramic ocean views. Worth it as an experience in itself.

    Best flights to Hamburg?

Hamburg (HAM) connects via major European hubs — direct flights from London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam. From the US: connect via Frankfurt (Lufthansa), Amsterdam (KLM), or London. Plan to arrive on July 28 to recover from jet lag. Important: arrival by morning/afternoon of July 29 is mandatory — afternoon technical handover and evening briefing dinner happen the same day, before the Day 1 departure on July 30 early.

How do I pay? What’s the deposit?

10% deposit at booking confirms your spot. Balance via international wire transfer in EUR or USD. Once you submit the booking form, our team contacts you on WhatsApp within 24 hours to handle the details. Cancellation terms shared at booking.
