Mendoza Tour 2026 — Wines & Andes
Wineries, Aconcagua, and the Andes in 11 days.
4,362 km on a BMW R1300GS through the heart of Argentina.
Mendoza is not a destination you rush. You leave from Urubici, ride across southern Brazil and the mountain pass, cross the border at Santo Tomé, and roll down through the Argentinian pampas to the foot of the Andes. Four days on the road that pull you into the country — not as a tourist, but as someone who arrives.
Eleven days. 4,362 kilometers. Most of them you ride; some, you leave the bike resting while you sip a Malbec under a hundred-year-old vine. That’s Mendoza: it alternates road with winery, mountain with table, silence with toast. Full UpSerra logistics — you only need to remember to slow down.
It’s the lightest tour of the UpSerra calendar. Easy itinerary, big landscape, the rhythm of two-up traveling. Riders looking for extreme adrenaline go to Atacama or Carretera. Riders who want real Argentina — good wine, Aconcagua in the window, long dinners — come to Mendoza.

THE ROUTE
Urubici → Mendoza → Aconcagua → Uruguaiana
Day-by-day itinerary
DAY 01 · FRI JUN 13 · URUBICI
Initial briefing
Meet the group, see the bikes ready, review what comes and what stays. Dinner in the great room of Pousada UpSerra, before the most anxious sleep of the week.
DAY 02 · SAT JUN 14 · 785 KM
Urubici → Santo Tomé
Departure from the Catarinense mountains heading to the border. We cross Rio Grande do Sul’s farmland, cross the border at Uruguaiana, and enter Argentina. First night on Argentinian soil, in Santo Tomé.
DAY 03 · SUN JUN 15 · 766 KM
Santo Tomé → San Francisco
The pampas open up. Flat horizon in every direction, ranches, cattle, headwinds. Easy, mental riding — the kind of day that lets the rhythm of the trip settle into your body.
DAY 04 · MON JUN 16 · 776 KM
San Francisco → Mendoza
Last day of pampas, with the Andes appearing in the distance as you get closer. Arrival in Mendoza in late afternoon — a city of wide squares, vineyards on the outskirts, gastronomy that grew up at the right pace.
DAY 05 · TUE JUN 17 · MENDOZA · FREE
Wineries — first day
Tasting day. You pick the circuit: Maipú (historic wineries, more accessible) or Luján de Cuyo (high-end, close to the foothills). The UpSerra team helps you pre-book the best ones for your taste.
DAY 06 · WED JUN 18 · MENDOZA · FREE
Wineries — second day
Second day in Mendoza to round out the experience: another winery, a long lunch, or a stroll through Plaza Independencia and Parque General San Martín. If you’d rather rest, you rest.
DAY 07 · THU JUN 19 · 105 KM
Mendoza → Uspallata
A short, cinematic stage. Ruta 7 climbs through Quebrada de Cacheuta between rock walls and the Mendoza River alongside. Uspallata appears as a flat valley ringed by peaks. Short distance, vast landscape.
DAY 08 · FRI JUN 20 · 200 KM
Aconcagua day trip
Ride up to Aconcagua Provincial Park, the highest peak outside the Himalayas (22,837 ft / 6,961 m). Laguna Horcones viewpoint with the south face of Aconcagua right in front of you. Optional continuation to Cristo Redentor de los Andes at the Chilean border (12,572 ft / 3,832 m). Return to Uspallata for the night.
DAY 09 · SAT JUN 21 · 324 KM
Uspallata → San Juan
Heading north out of Uspallata, entering San Juan from the west. More elevation, a landscape that shifts from arid to cultivated as you approach the city. San Juan is Argentina’s second wine region — high-altitude wines that are different from Mendoza’s Malbec.
DAY 10 · SUN JUN 22 · 544 KM
San Juan → Villa Carlos Paz
Longest day of the return leg. San Juan → La Rioja → Córdoba to Villa Carlos Paz, a tourist village on Lake San Roque, ringed by sierras. Last night in Argentina.
DAY 11 · MON JUN 23 · 862 KM · FINISH
Villa Carlos Paz → Uruguaiana
Long stage crossing central Argentina to the border. Official close in Uruguaiana — hugs, photos, and the trip ends here for those who need to catch a flight back.

WINES & ANDES
What makes Mendoza different
Mendoza is the world’s 5th largest wine region, and the only one made at the foot of the Andes. Here Malbec has high-altitude soil — vines planted between 800 and 1,500 meters (2,600–4,900 ft), irrigated by snowmelt water. The result is a wine with an identity you don’t find anywhere else.
Fifty kilometers from the city, the climb to Uspallata begins — base of the Aconcagua expedition. In a few hours you go from a temperature-controlled cellar drinking a 2015 Malbec to a 4,000-meter (13,000 ft) viewpoint with the south face of the highest peak in the Americas right in front of you. That transition is what defines the tour.

In Mendoza, guided visits to premium wineries (Catena Zapata, Achaval Ferrer, Lagarde, etc.) are paid separately. The UpSerra team helps you build the tasting itinerary that fits your taste — ranging from USD 60 (accessible Maipú) to USD 300 (high-end Luján). You book directly with the winery and pay on the spot. This format gives flexibility: if you’d rather skip tastings, you don’t pay for them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the tour for couples? I’m solo — can I join?
Yes. The “ideal for couples” framing is about the rhythm (lighter pace, with 2 free wine days) — but half of the group typically rides solo, in shared or single rooms. It’s not a couples-only tour.
I don’t drink wine — am I missing the point?
No. The 2 free days in Mendoza are optional. If you skip wineries, you can wander the city, do an easy hike at El Challao, visit Bodega La Rural (wine museum — worth it even without tasting), or simply rest. The Andes experience (Aconcagua, Uspallata, San Juan) is the other half of the tour and stands on its own.
What’s the difference vs the Atacama or Carretera tours?
Mendoza is the lightest tour in the UpSerra calendar. Easy itinerary, no critical altitude (max 12,572 ft / 3,832 m at Cristo Redentor, optional), no extensive gravel sections. Atacama has heavy altitude (15,000+ ft) and desert. Carretera has gravel and unpredictable weather. Mendoza is the gateway to the UpSerra South America tours.
Is it cold? Isn’t June winter in Argentina?
Yes, it’s Argentinian winter. Mendoza city: 5–18°C (41–64°F). Uspallata and Aconcagua can drop to -5°C (23°F) in the morning. Andean wind makes it feel colder. Insulated winter gear (pants and jacket, balaclava, reinforced gloves) is mandatory. Initial briefing covers the full equipment list.
Will my motorcycle handle the route?
The route is 99% good asphalt. Aconcagua and Andes sections are all paved. The BMW R1300GS is more than enough — Tiger 800/900, KTM 890 Adv, or any 700cc+ adventure bike will be comfortable. We recommend mixed adventure tires (not exclusively off-road) for highway efficiency.
Can I do only part of the tour? Like, fly into Mendoza?
Not in the standard format. The tour is a closed 11-day package with the team together the whole time. If you’re tight on schedule and only want the Argentinian portion, we recommend the Atacama+Mendoza Tour – September 2026 (fly & ride format, starting in Mendoza). Reach out and we’ll adjust.
I don’t have my own motorcycle — how does the rental work?
UpSerra operates a fleet of BMW R1300GS prepared for long expeditions. Rental is included in the package and covers the bike fully serviced, mechanical support from the support vehicle, and the bike waiting for you in Urubici on Day 1. No worrying about service, tires, parts, or border logistics — the team handles everything.
Does the support vehicle carry my luggage?
No. The support vehicle is for rescue and emergencies. After all, this is a motorcycle trip — luggage stays on the bikes.
Do I need a visa for Brazil or Argentina?
Citizens of the US, Canada, UK, EU, Australia, and New Zealand currently enter both countries visa-free for tourism (up to 90 days). Always check the latest entry requirements before departure — UpSerra confirms with you ahead of time.
Is my motorcycle license valid?
Yes — your home country motorcycle license (Class A or equivalent) is accepted. We strongly recommend getting an International Driving Permit (IDP) before traveling — issued by AAA in the US, AA in the UK, and equivalent automobile clubs elsewhere.
How do I pay? What’s the deposit?
10% deposit at booking confirms your spot. Balance via international wire transfer in USD or credit card. Once you submit the booking form, our team contacts you on WhatsApp within 24 hours to handle the details. Cancellation terms shared at booking.
How does jet lag affect Day 1?
The trip starts in Urubici, Brazil. From the US East Coast, time difference is 1–2 hours; from West Coast or Europe, 3–6 hours. We recommend arriving 1 day early to recover. Day 1 is dedicated to briefing and rest in Urubici — no riding yet.
